With the year coming to an end, we have to be ever cognizant of 'Gift Card Scams'. A scammer may call, text, e-mail, or contact you via social media claiming they represent a Federal (IRS) or State tax agency and that you owe a bogus tax penalty and/or fee. They may then tell you to pay using gift cards and you need to provide the card number as well as the pin. This is a ruse and scammers are only trying to get money from you.

Watch this brief YouTube video on Gift Card Scams compliments IRS.GOV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9yRuyXt9vQ)

For information on reporting Tax Scams to the IRS, here is an additional article: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/tax-scams-how-to-report-them

For State reporting reach out to your specific state treasury department;

One last tip regarding gift cards: Gift cards cannot be used for tax payments.
